I spent a great deal of time as a child playing in the mud of the creek behind my parents' house. My mother still owns that house. We visit it frequently. Whenever we go there, I feel like I'm going on vacation. :)

Hi,
I'm a new guy at Wild Child and your mention of Cornwall tickled me where I live. My British Barbadian grandfather (on seeing Elvis Presley on tv in the 50s said 'Bock to de zoo, mon.') traced the family back to 12th century Devon. A cousin found and visited the tiny village of Shilstone ('shelf stone' in Old or Middle English, I forget which) there. So, Howdy, neighbor. Also, my other grandfather grew up in the silver bonanza town of Virginia City, Nevada. When you visit the graveyard there and read the headstones, a great percentage of the deceased are listed as born in Cornwall 18--.

Vivid memory? I'm two years old and standing on the front seat of the car next to my mother as she drives on a gravel road. A pebble jumps up and cracks the windshield in a spidery pattern right in front of my face.

Beautifully expressed, M.J. Truly :^)

I remember running barefoot through the grass as a child, and playing on our rickety swing set in the back yard. I recall two trees in the front yard, encircled by curved decorative 'pavers' which were meant to create a pool which would hold water for the trees.

Amazing how powerful those memories are, and they stick with us throughout our lives.
